Don’t get chucked aside immediately: how to write an appealing resume or cover letter

Up till now, we’ve talked a lot about interviews, but to apply these skills, your resume and cover letter have to first make the cut. So how do you use words to convince your potential employers to shortlist you? Here are seven quick writing tips!

1. Craft a holistic narrative.

Your experience can come in many forms. Highlight not only your professional but also academic and social accomplishments.

2. Quantify your credentials.

Don’t just list your results and achievements. Show facts and figures, and how it impacts who you are.

3. Fit into the company.

Research and understand the company values. Show how you will approach particular situations through the lens of these values.

4. Appeal directly.

Look at the job description carefully and reuse the keywords that express what your employers are looking out for.

5. Be concise.

The average attention span of humans is getting shorter. Keep to the essential points.

6. Proofread.

Small mistakes could ruin your chances. Check for grammar, formatting, repetitive words, and spelling. Make sure especially that you write exclusively in American OR British English!

7. Be honest.

Portray yourself as an appealing candidate, but make sure what you write is factual. Dishonesty will come back and bite you!

Tailoring your resume and cover letter specifically for each job will definitely require extra time and effort, but it will also yield higher chances of success – even if that means you can only manage fewer applications. We hope these tips have been helpful for you, and all the best in your applications!

What do you say when your interviewers ask if you have any questions?

We have already established in a previous article that preparing for an interview includes planning for the questions you would like to ask your interviewer. But how exactly do you go about that? What should you ask or not ask? Here are some examples to help you get started!

We hope that you now have a better idea on how to tackle this segment of your job interviews. But remember: even with this help sheet in mind, overconfidence can lead you to unknowingly fall victim to asking questions that you already know are taboo. Practice and preparation are still vital to having successful interviews!

Good Job Creations’ Mascot Jay comes on-LINE with Stickers!

Singapore, January 28, 2020 – 2019 was an eventful year, where Good Job Creations came together with NUS JSS and NTU JAC on several occasions to explore the Japanese language and culture together. To end the year with a blast, Good Job Creations held a Sticker Design Competition for the two student clubs to generate LINE stickers for our mascot, Jay. We received many marvellous submissions, and we’re proud to announce Stefanie Lee from NUS as our deserving winner. Congratulations, Stefanie, and thank you to all participants for your hard work!

Stefanie’s designs feature a different art version of Jay, which looks softer and more huggable, or what the Japanese would call chibi. Friendly-looking and welcoming, Stephanie specially curated the artwork of Chibi Jay to reflect the hospitality that Good Job Creations extends to all its clients, as well as the feelings of trustworthiness we thus leave on others. In addition, for the laptop sticker, she purposefully let Chibi Jay’s curl around our company logo to illustrate how Good Job Creations is a family which values teamwork and inclusiveness. All in all, Chibi Jay is irresistibly cute, and with each LINE sticker captioned with commonly used phrases of our everyday lives, we hope that Jay’s stickers will thus become popular with everyone!

If this post has gotten you all riled up to meet Chibi Jay, don’t fret, because its stickers are already up! https://line.me/S/sticker/10464667 Do check it out (yes, both in the sense of looking at it and also adding it to your cart), and we hope you’ll like it as much as we do!

Kick off to FY 2020

Singapore, April 9, 2019 – Good Job Creations’ annual Financial Year (FY) 2020 Kick-off Meeting was held on April 8th, 2019. It was an opportunity for the Management and each Team representative to share the many milestones passed in the last FY and achievement of desired objectives. Activity does not equate to progress, and therefore it is also important to delve into the analysis of any defeats.

We are continuously looking forward, and for this new beginning, each leader has also discussed the theme and direction we are heading towards to. A point picked out during the assembly was the fact that the world is facing technological shifts; it is time Good Job Creations start to depend more on technology for the improvement of efficiency.

Ultimately, we also hope to spread inspiration to all of our stakeholders in this FY 2020 kick off.

“If you want more, you have to become more. For things to change, you have to change. For things to get better, you have to get better. For things to improve, you have to improve. If you grow, everything grows for you.”- Jim Rohn

GJC Leaders crafting the future at Business Planning Camp

The young leaders of Good Job Creations had a productive and insightful Business Planning Camp over the weekend. A casual and neutral environment aided in peeling away the layers of formality and tenseness for the sharing session.

It was an intense day where thoughts, ideas, concerns, goals, advice and action plans were hashed out, picked apart and discussed to work towards an aligned direction and goals.

This Business Planning Camp creates an exceptional opportunity to fortify trust within the leaders and the start towards achieving the goals together for the next Financial Year!

AsiaX Magazine Cover Feature

With a history and background that does not stand out from every other individual, how did this young leader manage to reach his current place?

“It is all about grabbing onto opportunities presented to you and taking a leap of faith. Everything changed for me when I jumped aboard the wave that Will Group was riding, and it brought me to Good Job Creations in Singapore. I never once looked back.” Kimiya admitted that the move from Japan Headquarters to the then small entity in a foreign country was not an easy decision.

The experience, however, has been an eye-opener and fulfilling, even if the journey is not smooth sailing. Kimiya acknowledged that he is learning something new every day, especially when he took on a leadership role that oversees local employees.

“It is about finding the right balance; what practices should I retain that has been traditional in a Japanese firm, and what new practices should I adopt. I am constantly battling to find that right balance.”

Taking on the Managing Director role at such a young age meant receiving support but also needing to deal with the backlash. Some people tend not to take a young leader seriously, expressing doubt and citing inexperience while others see him as a pillar of inspiration – to challenge themselves to reach their own seemingly impossible goals.

Kimiya encourages young aspiring leaders to challenge tough situations head-on as he believes that “what does not manage to bring you down will make you stronger”.

Collaboration with NUS JSS – Nagoya | Kansai Dialect and Culture

Singapore, September 20, 2019 – Did you know that Toyota, one of Japan’s leading car manufacturer, has its headquarters in Nagoya?

In collaboration with NUS Japanese Studies Society (JSS), Good Job Creations organised a Japanese Dialects and Culture workshop to introduce Nagoya and its culture, as well as to recap on the Kansai dialect, to the members of NUS JSS. The workshop serves to further enhance the interests of the members of the Japanese culture.

An element of fun was introduced into the workshop via the incorporation of engaging games and activities, making it a light-hearted and enjoyable workshop.

Good Job Creations looks forward to more of such partnerships in 2020!

There is no better way to bring your team together than through cooking.

Singapore, August 7, 2019 – Team bonding activity is a great way to improve both communication and cooperation, which are incredibly crucial in ensuring the success of a consulting firm like Good Job Creations.

As such, Good Job Creations has organised a team bonding activity, in collaboration with CulinaryOn. With our theme of “Beyond the Plate”, we hope that our members walked away with not just their stomachs full, but their hearts as well.

CulinaryOn’s team bonding activity had a series of fun-filled activities, ranging from an ice-cream show to a whisk and risk dessert challenge.

All were done to promote cohesiveness and cooperation within the teams.

It was an unforgettable event, and we look forward to more of such activities in years to come.
